Meridian View Dorper Stud

Meridian View Dorper Stud is a family based premier meat sheep Dorper stud located in North Western Victoria, Australia

We established Meridian View Dorper stud in 2008 as a diversion from our dried fruit dilemma of unreliable water supplies.

We looked carefully at Dorpers because they were hardy good dooers in dry conditions. We then removed vines which were low in production for pasture and hay making, maintaining young vines and the good producers. We now return our dorpers to our vineyards after picking and they remain there until the first shoots appear in the next Spring. We find they keep the vineyards clean and return fertiliser to them.

On chatting with an old sheep farmer in the early stages of our development, we were told that the indication of a good sheep flock was its evenness. With that principle in mind we have tried to aim for eveness in size, colour and type, whilst adhering to the classic dorper standard.

We started with 3 ewes from Roslynmead Stud at Echuca, and then purchased 3 ewes from Dell Dopers at Moama. We have always endeavoured to improve our strain by selecting good stock, based on advice from noteworthy sources.

We salute our mentors, Andrea Van Nierkirk of Dell Dorper Stud and the Pippins of Cowra Stud, Yelta, Victoria. We are slowly building a list of satisfied customers and this to us is all important. We endeavour to give our customers reliability and good value .
